MADDIE GANNON - POLITICAL REPORTER
As the daughter of a network sports broadcaster, I spent countless weekends growing up sitting in broadcast booths, production trucks and arena media rooms. Watching television crews and print reporters bring sporting events all around the world into the homes of Americans formed my early fascination with the industry. Eventually, it led to my own passion: helping people grasp the policy and political decisions made by our nation’s most powerful figures.
I’m currently the White House reporter for Spectrum News, where I take our seat in the daily briefings, attend the president’s pre-credentialed events and frequently serve as the supplemental print pooler reporter for the vice president and second gentleman. I was serving as pool, and thus responsible for sharing the news with my colleagues, when the vice president called the special counsel report on the president “politically motivated,” for example.
Daily, I strive to bring the most consequential news — and the news that truly matters to our communities — out of the Biden administration to our local audiences around the country. I recently interviewed Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg, for instance, about implementation of the bipartisan infrastructure act, HHS Sec. Xavier Beccera about Medicaid unwinding and conducted an exclusive interview with the second gentleman on his role as the first jewish spouse of a president or vice president.
Previously, I extensively covered former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy from his home district, conducting multiple one-on-one interviews and producing an hour-long documentary on his career. During the 2022 election cycle, I covered the second most expensive House race in the nation, and moderated nearly 10 debates.
